When J Mario returned from Rome he showed me a postcard with the restored and cleaned image of the Madonna della Strada. It was quite a surprise to see the Virgin and Child with rosy cheeks and the Virgin wrapped in a golden veil. No longer the dark blue envelope that surrounded her and the child. I searched the Gesu's (Rome) official site and found a low res version of the image. I composed that image with lines from Robert Southwell's New Earth, New War. My tribute to the Jesuit jubilee year 2006.
